Pleasant Cafe is more than a neighborhood coffee shop. It's a training ground, a community hub, and a launchpad — run by the Somali Youth and Family Development Center (SOMFAM) and powered by the belief that young people, given real opportunity, can build remarkable futures.
The students and young adults behind this counter aren't just making your latte. They're building their first resume. Learning customer service, time management, and professional skills. Discovering what it means to show up, contribute, and belong somewhere.
We employ and train high school students, college students, and at-risk youth — including young people navigating the foster care system — giving them a safe, supported environment where real-world career experience meets genuine community.
This cafe exists because SOMFAM has spent sixteen years believing in the potential of Somali youth and families across the Twin Cities. And it continues because people like you choose to invest in that potential.
